Province History

At the present time the Province consists of the Amalgamation of Three Provinces, being the Chesterfield Province, Mansfield Province and the Peaks & Dales Province.

The Chesterfield Province is the oldest Province and was formed when it broke away from the Sheffield Province in 1905. According to an Old Directory in 1959, the Province consisted of some thirty Lodges! However by 1998 that figure had been reduced to just six Lodges, (alas a sign of the times). Fortunately however those six Lodges in the main have remained strong.

In 1999 after an approach by the Mansfield Province, it was agreed that the two Provinces would amalgamate, thus forming a stronger Province, this going ahead in the same year. At that time the Mansfield Province also consisted of some six Lodges, having broken away from the Nottingham Province in 1926.

The first P.G.P. of the newly formed Province was, would you believe it :-

Bro. Robert Ian "Chalkie" Charlton R.O.H.

In 2004 a further amalgamation took place when the Peaks & Dales Province joined the Province. There has however since that time been further losses of Lodge's, with the Province now in 2015 sadly has only Seven Lodge's!

During it's history the Province has had only Five Grand Lodge Officers, Those Being :-

Bro. Ron Hill. R.O.H. Grand Waiter 1980.

Bro. Cliff Hill. R.O.H. Grand Registrar 1989.

Bro. Robert Ian "Chalkie" Charlton. R.O.H. Grand Minstrel 2006.

Bro. Paul Wilson. K.O.M. Grand Alderman Of Benevolence 2012.

Bro. Trevor Young R.O.H. Grand Registrar 2015.

Over the years the Province have regularly raised and contributed Thousands Of Pounds to various Charities, and continues to do so with P.G.P.'s Appeal's and P.G.P's taking part in various activities with the support of Brother's and their Wives/Partners to try and raise the profile of the Order, and hopefully will continue to do so for years to come.

Yours Fraternally

Bro. Harry Simpson. R.O.H. P.G. Secretary
